Some things are unacceptable at any time anywhere.

Doggy "post" mortem.
December 1st, 2007--Carlton, Nottingham
Community Leafleter has his finger end bitten off and the bone fractured.

Papers are bitten, post men and women are bitten, fingers are lost and mutilated. This all happens because owners of dogs don't think it's a problem.

A great deal of the law in this country is built around duty of care. As an example we can see that if it is shown that the owner of a dog has not taken reasonable steps to ensure that anyone posting to their property are protected from the possibility of being bitten, then they could be deemed liable.

Children sometimes deliver with parents and this is good exercise and educational for them. Paper Boys and Girls do not deserve to be bitten even if your take is that you didnt want the free paper anyway.

Things you can do to protect yourself and others:

  • Fit a cage at the back of your letterbox.
  • Fit an external letterbox.
  • Do put up a sign that clearly states, Beware of the Dog.

If everyone takes notice of this advice it will save the following:

  • Countless man hours accross the country.
  • Loss of fingers and other bits.
  • Time and money spent by the NHS on treating the wounds.
  • Having a law suit levelled agains you.
  • The possibility that some may have to collect their own mail.
  • Chewed letters and bills.

Please make a conscious decision to protect your mail and those who post to you.
